Send me ‘Fading to Dust’ for my muses reaction to watching yours die right in front of them.

Heroes were supposed to save civilians. It wasn’t their fault that the world was so screwed up. Keeping those not responsible for the threats they fought safe was the main task for a hero. When the civilian is young, the importance only strengthens.

Of course he couldn’t manage that…

“Come on, kid, that injury only had a chance of being fatal,” he mumbled to the boy as he looked over the wound, knowing fully well the chance was near 100%. But survival was technically still possible. 

Quickly removing his cape, Damian wrapped it underneath the boy’s vest, covering the injury as much as he could. As he tied it tightly around the older child’s chest, he bit his lip as blood already began to spread across the bright yellow fabric, staining it to a deep red shade.

Still possible…

Once he tended to the wound as best he could, Damian checked vitals, his hands shaking. Heroes saved people…. heroes didn’t let innocents die….

His face dropped as the lack of heartbeat became clear. It may have been possible to save the boy…. but he didn’t.
